Q-dees Celebrates One Malaysia with Art

It was an exciting day at the Tropicana City Mall as parents gathered to see their young, budding artists express their artistic and creative skills in an art contest organised by Q-dees Worldwide Edusystems (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

The children in deep concentration during the art contest.

With the theme “One Malaysia”, the Q-dees Beamind International Art Contest was organised by Q-dees – one of the leading early education centres in Malaysia.

“At Q-dees we believe in developing a child holistically. Their academic, physical, social, emotional and creative traits should be taught and nurtured together. When these traits are brought together, the child's learning process becomes accelerated and enhanced. They understand what they are learning and are able to apply it to their daily lives,” said Mrs. Cindy Tan, of Q-dees, at the opening ceremony of the Q-dees Beamind International Art Contest.

Using a combination of visually stimulating animations, interactive play and child-friendly technology, children at Q-dees are taught not only reading, writing, arithmetic and art but also moral values and social responsibility. At Q-dees, learning is fun. Children enjoy the process of learning and are encouraged to express their own ideas, thoughts and opinions.

Tan explained, “Children are constant learners, absorbing everything they see, hear, touch and feel. Art is a positive medium to encourage children to express themselves.”

“Art is a powerful tool. It communicates and verbalises our thoughts and ideas. Through art, we want to encourage children to communicate their understanding of the spirit behind One Malaysia. It is our hope that as these children grow up, they will transfer the spirit of appreciation and mutual respect to those around them. We hope they will see beyond racial and ethnic differences and value those around them for their uniqueness and individuality” added Tan.

Rozita Mohammed Taher, a mother from Setiawangsa concurs and believes that children nowadays need the suitable platforms to expand their creative mind. ‘This art competition is not just another colouring contest. It teaches my son techniques and that I believe will enhance his creativity in many ways,’ she goes on to say.

The Beamind International Art Programme™ teaches different art techniques such as Beamindraw™, Beamind Rendering Techniques™, Beamindesign™, Beamodelling 3-D™ and Beamind Creative Expressions™. Some of these techniques were taught to the participants at the Q-dees Beamind International Art Contest.

The top five winners of the art contest were later announced during the day. The grand prize winner, Cheryl Wong took home Faber Castel stationery worth RM 200, a pair of Crocs Kids Trailbreak shoes and a Tutti Fruitti Frozen Yogurt voucher worth RM 50.

The second winner, Wong Jean Hann took home Faber Castel stationery worth RM 150, a pair of Crocs Kids Trailbreak shoes and a Tutti Fruitti Frozen Yogurt voucher worth RM 40.

Our little Malaysians

Proud to be Malaysians ... The students of Q-dees Happy Garden Centre proudly displaying the Malaysian flag.

Are our toddlers too young to grasp the meaning and significance of Merdeka? Not if you include stories, songs and innovative teaching tools to make it interesting, exciting and easier to grasp, says Mrs Shireen Ong, Principal of Q-dees Happy Garden centre who recently celebrated Hari Kemerdekaan with her young charges and impart the essence of Merdeka and what it means to be Malaysian.

At the same time, it was an opportunity to cultivate in the children a love towards the school and country by abiding to the rules and regulations.

The day started off with the children congregating excitedly at the school foyer dressed in various traditional costumes. Once settled, they began by singing the national anthem, NegaraKu and reciting the Rukun Negara Pledge. This was followed by the teachers introducing the importance of the day’s lesson and some of the exciting activities the children will partake in their respective classes.

With the support of the exclusively created Fliptec@QTM (Focus, Learn, Imagine and Play) programme, the team of dedicated teachers used a combination of short stories, songs and interactive play and activities to help the children comprehend the concept of Merdeka.

During the day, patriotism was instilled in the lesson plan. Included in the day’s lesson, the understanding of the Malaysian flag and what the various colours represent, drawing the flag and the traditional costumes of the different races in Malaysia as well as to help the children understand the importance to comply with the rules to be a good citizen of Malaysia and Q-dees.

Aside from this, the teachers also weaved in lessons on how these children can play their part as citizens of Malaysia despite their tender age. The children were also taught about the different festivities that we celebrate here in Malaysia to encourage a sense of respect and harmony among the many different ethnic groups at Q-dees.

“Our children today spend a lot of time in school interacting with other children so it is a perfect avenue for us to teach them to value each other’s uniqueness. Furthermore, they are little individuals in their own right, so it is imperative for us to mould them from young to be effective and contributing members of the community,” added Mrs. Ong

The day concluded with the children excitingly showing their parents their artwork that they did in class.

Mrs. Kelly Kok, a parent of one of the children applauded the school’s initiative for educating the children to learn and understand each other’s faith and ethnic differences. “While it is important for children today to learn the 3Rs, it is also important to learn social skills, and I am glad that Q-dees is taking the initiative to instil such positive values in our children,” added Mrs. Kok.

Green is In!

The Q-dees kids in differen shades of green.

There is nothing more adorable than seeing little kids dressed up in cute colourful outfits. Well in this case, the kids of Q-dees Manjalara in Kepong were dressed up in various shades of green which made me turn ‘green’ with envy because this is one colour which I can never manage to carry off. Nevertheless, the little ones were all dressed up to celebrate ‘Green Day’.

According to the principal Puan Junaidah Johari, Green Day was part of the Centre’s efforts to cultivate a green habit amongst the children.

The children began their day with singing the Q-dees song, and this was followed by Puan Junaidah sharing with the children and teachers about the 3R concept – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
In line with structure of Q-dees Fliptec@Q™ programme, Puan Junaidah used a combination of song, visual aids and a story about recycling empty canned drinks to help relay the message effectively to the young vibrant bunch. She also took this time to commend the children and parents who were present for bringing items to be recycled or to be given away to charity organisations. Puan Junaidah also announced that Q-dees Manjalara Centre would have recycling bins to enable everyone to bring in items for recycling.

Classes for the day focused on interactive activities and arts and craft centred on the message of recycling. Some of the younger children went around the school compound picking up rubbish and watered the plants, while the older children made various crafts from discarded items.

Class En-Newton used plastic food containers and plastic bottles to make little baskets decorated with ‘fruit foam net’ and ribbons that can be used to hold fruits or potpourri. Class En-Baird on the other hand, used old magazines to make a paper pot and a paper bead necklace, whilst Class En-Owens made flower petals and attached them to drinking straws to make stalks of flowers.

In addition, the children also enjoyed a variety of ‘green’ snacks made by the teachers or brought by parents such as green bean soup, green jelly, green apples, green grapes, green cake and green Vitagen. Aligned with the environmental theme, some of the teachers served the snacks on plates made from banana leaves!

It was a certainly a day that was enjoyed tremendously by the children and I’m sure that each of them returned home carrying with them a message that its important to care for the environment and one that they will certainly put into practise themselves. And as for me, I left with a sense of pride, knowing that there is hope for Mother Earth and the environment, if there are more conscious-minded people like Q-dees around!

Ever heard of EyeQ-lympix?

Parents, I hope you had the opportunity to take your kids to the EyeQ-lympix which was held at One Utama recently. If you didn’t then I guess you missed on what has been dubbed as the ‘greatest mind-building event of the year’ for children!

It was organised by Abbot Nutrition who were promoting their Gain Eye-Q Nutrition System.

I'm sure you've heard of the saying, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'. Well, experts agree that play is a child’s most favourite way of learning. In fact, some may even go on to say that children are never more serious than they are during their play-time.
There were lots of activities for the kids that were specifically designed to incorporate elements of both fun and learning. At the same time, the activities were also custom-made to challenge the mathematical, memory, logical and conceptualising skills of the children.

There were resounding waves of laughter and excitement as children braved the complexities of the different activities, all in the spirit of good, wholesome fun and learning. Children who completed all five of the mind-building activities also took home with them an EyeQ-lympix Gold Medal, much to the delight of their proud parents.

I managed to speak to Goh Kay Yin, Marketing Manager of the Paediatric Nutrition Division of Abbott Nutrition who stressed the importance of preparing a child for mental development at an early age with the right stimulation and also nutrition. Apparently this is the first time that Abbot Nutrition is having such an event in Malaysia.

The EyeQ-lympix event also gave parents the opportunity to understand the science behind brain nutrition at the Eye-Q Research Centre, whereby nutrition experts were on hand to enlighten them on ways to obtain complete brain nutrients through a nutritious and balanced diet.

With an EyeQ-lympix Gold Medal in hand, the kids were cherishing their shining medallion, while their parents beamed with pride of having watched their kids accomplish the greatest mind-building event of the year. A sense of satisfaction resonated in the atmosphere as EyeQ-lympix was essentially an enriching learning experience on brain development for the whole family.

Judging from the excitement and the laughter erupting from both parents and children when I left One Utama that day, I'm pretty sure this won't be the first and last EyeQ-lympix event organised by Abbot.
