400,000 packs of soy milk! That’s certainly a lot of milk. Well that’s the amount of Yeo’s soy milk that will be distributed to approximately 100,000 students in 60 schools in the Klang Valley over a period of 5 months.
It’s certainly never too young to teach kids the nutritional value of soy milk as a healthy lifestyle beverage choice. This is exactly what Yeo Hiap Seng (Malaysia) Yeo’s hopes to achieve through its Yeo’s Program Susu Soya Sekolah which was officially launched at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kelana in Petaling Jaya recently.
Under the purview of the programme, Yeo’s will provide educational talks on balanced food diet and distribute 400,000 packs of Yeo’s soy milk to 60 schools from October 2010 until March 2011. In addition, the Yeo’s Program Susu Soya Sekolah undertakes the role to educate students towards preserving the environment by learning about recycling.
Activities lined-up as part of the campaign include free serving of Yeo’s soy milk; educational talks on balanced food diet, soy nutrition and eating habits which includes quizzes; Yeo’s Colouring Contest and the Yeo’s Peraduan Antara Sekolah – Bin aan Kitar Semula Kreatif 1 Malaysia, a recycling competition amongst participating schools.
To kick-off the launch, Standard 5 and 6 pupils from Sekolah Sri Kebangsaan Sri Kelana pitted their culinary skills for the best Yeo’s soy milk shake using healthy and natural ingredients.
Present at the launch was Puan Hajah Nafsiah Binti Jaapar, Pegawai Pelajaran, Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah (PPD) Petaling Utama, Mr. Vincent Chui, General Manager – Marketing of Yeo’s and Puan Rohayah Mohamad Sarif, Principal of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kelana.
Mr Vincent Chui, General Manager – Marketing of Yeo Hiap Seng (Malaysia) Berhad (Yeo’s) said, “In line with our on-going corporate tagline ‘Lead a joyful Life’ that encourages a happy and healthy living proposition, the Yeo’s Program Susu Soya Sekolah aims to instil the importance of a balanced diet amongst our young generation and at the same time create awareness on the nourishing value of soy milk. School children today are exposed to so many food options and sometimes it’s easy to make wrong food choices due to busy schedules and lifestyle habits. By arming young people with proper knowledge of what constitutes a good diet for healthy growth and that wholesome food can also be tasty, they can then make these choices for themselves and carry this habit into their adult years.”
“The children will also be taught about preserving the environment by learning about recycling via educational talks on recycling-related activities. Through the Yeo’s Peraduan Antara Sekolah: Binaan Kitar Semula Kreatif 1 Malaysia, schools will be invited to enter a recycling competition that facilitates the creation of an “eco-friendly” sculpture using empty Yeo’s soy milk packs themed “1Malaysia”. The school with the most creative sculpture within the stipulated guideline and adherence to the theme will be deemed the winner. Cash prizes won by the winning schools will be at the liberty of the school to use for school development programmes,” said Vincent.
Participating schools will also be invited to enter the Yeo’s Colouring Contest to showcase their skills as well as to drive awareness on the nutritional benefits of soy.
